Portal Astrology 1/27/25
When seniors are getting admissions decisions, sometimes parents and/or guardians will flock to College Confidential or Reddit to see what others are hearing about decision release dates and get some ideas of the competition. The latter is not the fun part. It can be a real kick to the gut when you see the paragraphs of accomplishments of some 4.0/1600SAT/36ACT students. Somehow you think they must’ve found 50 hours in the day to do all that work, or they drink 25 red bulls and never sleep. Or mom and dad paid for it all, hopefully.
When kids apply to colleges, they set up a portal, which is where the school will provide their admissions decisions. On Reddit and College Confidential, kids and adults will also post speculations on when admissions decisions will be released as many schools use the wording “by” this date. So they’ll look for signals to see if anything is changing that could predict the school is working on adding information. There’s bars that widen and narrow so decisions are coming in 2 days. There’s a glitch on Sun/Mon so decisions are coming this week. There’s a post of blocks on Instagram so they’ll release decisions that Friday. It’s hilarious! Kids can see that they can sign up for admitted student days. But just following all these trends back in time on these pages is much more fun than the comparison of your kid to the ultra achievers out there.
It is also fun as I have no access to any of my kid’s portals. I can’t check any of these things to see if he does or does not have any of the signs that maybe he got in. I’ll chat about that in another blog.
